I feel that this quote from Phil Knight, founder of Nike, represents very well the journey of SJ Contracts this past financial year. We are happy to announce that SJ Contracts has completed the financial year 2018-19 with robust revenue growth of 40%.
Among the various projects commenced, we have been most excited about two Design and Build projects that we bagged. Going forward, we are looking to secure more contracts under this strategic model which will allow our clients a single point of contact for all project development services. Our experience in the use of state-of-the-art formwork systems enables us to add value in the design phase, thus ensuring good speed and constructability. We are working towards developing

in-house capabilities to execute MEP works which will allow us to provide single point services to our clients at competitive costs as well.
We have also obtained the IMS certification under ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 in January 2019, something we are really proud about.
SJ Contracts will continue to grow at a steady pace while at the same time focusing on evolving and maturing its capabilities. We are looking forward to this coming year and the great prospects it beholds.

We are happy to announce that we have now secured the certification under ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management Systems and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. As such, SJ Contracts is now certified as a company that operates in alignment with the ISO Integrated Management Systems (IMS). The Integrated Management System (IMS) integrates all of our organisation’s systems and processes into one complete framework, enabling us to work as a single unit with unified objectives.
For example, all business processes at SJ Contracts now take cognisance for apparent quality, environmental, health and safety risks. All stakeholders are made aware of these risks and a then a standardised process is followed to mitigate them or avoid them.
The implementation and certification process has been a period of evolving thoughts and improvements brought about in our approach towards the execution of projects. The IMS certification and its successful implementation has thus facilitated an assurance in quality, safety and environmental sustainability.

participants from the first batch of Jidnyasa, we have decided to make this a recurring quarterly training for all newly-joined team members. About fifty newly joined staff underwent the Jidnyasa training program in this quarter as well.
The training program works towards inculcating four important skills — Quality Orientation, Team Work, Reporting and Documentation, and Interpersonal Skills.
Development of essential behavioural skills within junior staff will remain a focal point of the training programs SJCPL in the future.
iCARE Initiative 2 - Cricket Tournament
One of the most looked forward to in-house events, the annual SJCPL Cricket League took place with much pomp and fervour in the month of March. This was the fourth consecutive year that we organised it and saw great participation of 120 players and 8 teams! Along with the 120 players, we also had several members of SJCPL contributing significantly to make it the glorious event that it was. The entire management of the tournament, including all logistics, was steered by volunteers from the company. The outcome of this flawless management was a spectacle of great passion — both on and off the field!
Corporate Initiative 1
Recently, SJ Contracts has partnered with the Social Enterprise PARFI (PanIIT Alumni Reach for India) Foundation for the purpose of setting up a sustainable supply of skilled manpower.
PARFI is committed to execute and scale self-sustainable skill development training that enhances incomes of the underprivileged sections. It is managed by a strong team of IIT alumni and domain experts. PARFI sets up ‘Rural Skill Gurukuls’ for the underprivileged, school dropouts with assured placements and 100% loan financing. At the Gurukuls, PARFI trains youth in various entry-level blue-collar trades like construction, manufacturing, textile, automobile & healthcare sectors. Currently, they have a network of Gurukuls across India in states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
PARFI has 15 dedicated full-time residential Construction Skill Gurukuls training for various construction and allied trades like shuttering, bar-bending, masonry, electricians, plumbers and HVAC etc. SJ Contracts has partnered with PARFI to address its requirement of quality trained manpower for future projects and has supported PARFI’s training infrastructure by setting-up aluminium shuttering material at one of the PARFI’s Gurukul in Jharkhand as well.
SJ Contracts has absorbed around 100 trained workers till date and is committed to strengthening this partnership in 2019-20. Some of our execution and quality managers have visited the Jharkhand Gurukul as trainers and assessors over the last two months. We are hopeful that this partnership will result in a long-term solution for SJCPL’s skilled manpower requirement in future and at the same time contribute to PanIIT’s noble and nation-building initiative.
PARFI has been recognized as one of the foremost training providers in the country in the blue-collar space and have been awarded “The most promising training partner” by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
Jupiter Hospital is a state-of-the-art, 350-bed hospital situated in Balewadi, Pune. We completed the 4,00,000 sq.ft. construction of this project in the year 2016. The Hospital Building consists of two basements, a lower ground floor and 10 upper floors. Construction included a service slab floor having transfer girders of 2.5m (w) x 1.5m (d) to float all the columns for the typical floors.
The most challenging part in this project for SJCPL was the LINAC bunker in the basement designated for Radiotherapy (Cancer Treatment). The bunker has concrete walls 6 ft. wide and slabs of 8 ft. in thickness. The concrete had to be temperature-controlled, to avoid any internal cracks due to the heat of hydration. This was a requirement in order to avoid any leakage of radiation outside the bunker. A special mix design was made to ensure free-flow concrete. Ice was used in the concrete to maintain temperature during casting. The formwork had to be self-supporting as no tie rods were permitted for the 6 ft. thick wall.
The hospital has been designed based on global healthcare norms with large and well-lit corridors and open areas, thus creating a de-stressing atmosphere for the patients and doctors.

SJ Contracts recently set up a portable Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at one of its project labour camps. The primary reason for setting up the plant has been to enable us to deal with sewage ourselves and not engage a third party to do so, thereby saving on unnecessary consumption of fuel to transport the sewage. The onsite setup has also enabled us to make good use of the treated water for non-potable use to water plants and cure concrete.
The STP is setup using a Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology. Such STPs generate much lesser sludge as compared to conventional reactors. The area footprint required to set up an MBBR plant is very minimal as well. The size of the plant makes it easy to knock down and move from one project to another.
As a result, SJ Contracts has been able to make a positive impact on consumption of fuel used for transport and water being used for curing concrete at site.
